Raw Straw opened up in July 2017, a dream of the couple who owns the restaurant. Sagar and Mahitha are young and energetic and promise their customers an international experience. They started out as a fully vegetarian + vegan restaurant, only to find people walking out without the option of meat. So, five months in and ready to shut down, they tried one last thing – they put up a “temporary” menu, a chalkboard with some fish and chicken offerings. And suddenly, they started being able to pay off the expenses. So while they may not be fully vegan, they’ve found a way to continue offering vegan options and making their business profitable.
